Manhattan Solstice
This is one of two days every year when the sun sets exactly in line with the crosstown streets of Manhattan. Pretty cool :)

Chrome OS
It didn't take long after Google announced its entrance into the operating system wars that the first photos have leaked onto the net. What you are able to see below is a shot of the Chrome desktop with one application installed, Google Talk. It's not yet clear whether the screen shot is 100% legit.

A sad story, must read :(
Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old girl suffering from terminal vascular cancer, told her mom that she wanted to live to see Pixar's Up. But before she could visit the theater, her condition became too unstable for her to be moved. Colby's family called Pixar, guessed a name of an employee to break through the automated operator and explained the situation to the first person they reached. A Pixar employee flew out immediately with a DVD, toys and posters in hand. From the OC Register: Colby couldn't see the screen because the pain kept her eyes closed so her mother gave her a play-by-play of the film. "Do you think you can hang on?" Colby's mother said. "I'm ready (to die), but I'm going to wait for the movie," the girl replied. At the end of the film, the mother asked if her daughter enjoyed the movie and Colby nodded yes, Lisa Curtin said. Colby died later that evening, hopefully fulfilled in at least some small way.
First Twittercide ;)
Two things here in what seems to be the world's first Twittercide: don't use your computer while taking a bath. And if for whatever reason you do, don't be like this 17-year-old Romanian girl and risk your well-being to Tweet. The Austrian times says that Maria Barbu was, in fact, in the tub while using Twitter when she likely reached to plug in her charger with a wet hand, electrocuting herself in the process. You smell that? Yeah, that's a Darwin Award in the making.

The born Technology Lover!
Kajus Aukščionis is quite possibly the fastest baby in the world. Sure, he's been training since he was five months old, but his real secret is much closer to our hearts. He loves laptops. This is the story of a tiny little human who has, at least for now, become the Usain Bolt of babies, all because he loves technology, even—or perhaps, especially—in the form of his dad's janky Dell laptop. It's almost enough to bring a tear to my eye.
Nvidia's dirty dozen

The Inglorious Bastards
Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...

Windows 7 Release Candidate Won't Expire for More Than a Year
That's right, Windows 7 RC has been given an expiration date far ahead in the mists of time: June 1st, 2010, to be exact. So don't be shy about giving it a whirl. The extra-long lifespan is to encourage people to take their time, read reviews, and not feel rushed to grab a copy before it becomes useless or expensive. There are unlimited keys for the release candidate, so don't fret, and do try it out.
Ironman 2 - First Photo
Here it is, the first official photo from Iron Man 2. Tony Stark is looking concerned because he ran out of bourbon while a wall of Iron Men look on. I can't wait. Director Jon Favreau says that Iron Man 2 will take place six months after Tony Stark tells the world that he's Iron Man, and they want "play with idea" of a superhero who's open about his identity. "But it obviously has consequences-in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore." Yes, like what if all of his suits got together and formed a dance troupe?

Windows XP Mode for Windows7!
To encourage enterprise people to let loose and rock Windows 7, it runs a full-fledged Windows XP virtual environment using Microsoft's Virtual PC. It requires an additional download (booo), but you won't have to worry about your applications breaking like with Vista.
Businessmen are picky bastards!
Which is why Lenovo working on a ThinkPad-branded netbook is good news for everyone. Their "Worldwide Competitive Analyst" says that they're exploring the area (of course), and that people should "watch this space", meaning that they're going to be making one. There's no other reason for him to say "watch this space" unless he was just being a dick, in which case you should watch THIS space, if you know what I mean.

Uniformed Letter Carrier with Child in Mailbag
This city letter carrier posed for a humorous photograph with a young boy in his mailbag. After parcel post service was introduced in 1913, at least two children were sent by the service. With stamps attached to their clothing, the children rode with railway and city carriers to their destination. The Postmaster General quickly issued a regulation forbidding the sending of children in the mail after hearing of those examples.

Designed by a Bose intern back in 2007, these modular Bluetooth speakers offer omnidirectional sound that can be enhanced by simply adding more speaker modules. Sure, Wi-Fi connectivity might work better for networked audio (especially when it's being operated from an iPhone), and we've seen somewhat similar products from Sonos and Griffin. But the premise of Bose lithium ion powered spheres (with and optional plugin) emanating wireless music around one's home, all controlled by a simple but sweet little iPhone app? I like it.

If you are less about waterparks and more about peaceful zen gardens, the Abisko also evokes the feeling of a gently flowing stream—complete with waterfalls. So far, there is no word on pricing—but it is safe to say that this will set you back some serious cash. Hopefully, they will make a matching urinal version. Now THAT would be something (truly horrible).
